Howdy paaartneers😃. What a busy week it has been. I even forgot to congratulate myself on winning the silver medal in last week's contest🤭. Congratulations to me and my fellow winners. Cheers🥂. Without further a do, I welcome you to my entry for #cc-wk4. Grab a seat and let's talk fashion fails.
There was a time I was so obsessed with trending fashion or as we call it here Kenya uniform (because everyone has it) until they did me dirty. Growing up I was used to my mother choosing my wardrobe. Then I got to high school and decided to 'grow horns' as she referred to defiance. Now I wanted to choose my wardrobe and try the Kenya uniforms.
When December came, the fashionista month in the village, I broke my piggy bank to chase Kenya uniform even after my mother gave me a speech not to. She wanted me to get a dress but I was so stubborn that I felt like she was being an enemy of progress. I just wanted those trousers so bad. They were all over the market and everyone was wearing them.
When I bought and tried them on, they were well fitting (tight) and well behaved in front of the seller. Little did I know.... they were rejects. I got home, all bubbly. "I got the Kenya uniform," my mind wouldn't stop chanting and I couldn't wait for Saturday to wear them to church youth practice. You know, to show off I had new pants, haha, so foolish and innocent. I got there early, they really had to notice. I wanted to suggest every dance that we would use the next day, to get in the spotlight. And then the light shone so bright that bam!
As I was dancing, my first fashion fail happened. I hadn't bought a rugged trouser neither had I worn a rugged one that particular Saturday but there in front of my fellow youth members, it raptured on the knee. No biggie, right? At least it's the knee area, I consoled myself inwards as they laughed.
I excused myself to go to the washroom. Let me tell you Mainaa! As I was pulling my pants up in place, I clutched them by the back pockets and they raptured again (lemme cry small, haha). I had to stay by the toilets. There was no way I was walking back in the church with ventilated pants. I waited until my best friend came out to look for me so I could send her to fetch me a lesso (wrapper) in the church store. I even instructed her to hide it so I could escape explaining why she had brought me the lesso. The way she laughed when she saw my new fashion was enough to make me want to send her to her maker. Now I had to pretend that I was using the lesso to perfect my Sunday's moves and at the same time avoid eye contact with my best friend.
Leave alone the embarassment it caused me, I dreaded my mother ever knowing about it. I had to sneak in the house when my mother was in the kitchen to get changed before she started with the I-told-you-so speech – though I got the speech eventually after my younger sister told on me.
Following that dreadful fashion fail, I swore off Kenya uniforms. Lemme just wear something that's not trending.
Thank you for reading😊.
