When we look at the physiology of us humans, what a wonderful piece of artwork we are, you could say perfection.
I find the nervous system fascinating as it keeps our muscular / skeleton system & organs all at work.
The nervous system is an electric system that sends neurons (electric currents) back & forth between the brain, the spine & the organs but I am not going to get into this. Rather I am going to break down the Parasympathetic Nerve & the Sympathetic Nerve & relate it to the Yogic system.
I am still in the process of digesting & expanding this knowledge but here I will give you what I know & feel ..
The Sympathetic Nerve is responsible for the Fight & Flight Mode & therefore is action based.
Most of us humans reside in the fight/flight or rather the rat race.
Society teaches us from early age that life is a big competition.
You must fight to exist in Society !!
Or take a flight (lol, this is what I did)
This attitude is unbalanced, not taking into account the Parasympathetic nervous system.
In Yoga, you can activate this response by doing back bends. & of course the more back bends you do, the stronger you fight/flight response will be.
You can relate the Sympathetic Nerve to the Pingala in the Kundalini Chakra system which represents the +, hot, sun & masculine aspect within.
The Parasympathetic Nerve is responsible for the Rest/Repair Mode & is based on the will/the intent.
The Parasympathetic Nerve is activated in forward bends.
It is responsible for the Ida current in the Kundalini chakra System, which symbolises the -, cold, moon & feminine aspect.
(I will go more into detail about the Kundalini Chakra System in future posts)
I use this part of biology to introduce Yogic science & philosophy to my yoga students.
Here it goes :
You are wiggling your fingers.
What came 1st the movement or the signal for the fingers to move?
The signal comes 1st.
The Parasympathetic Nerve comes 1st even though our minds doesn't consciously hear the intent/signal sent to activate the sympathetic nerve, yet it is happening on a subconscious level.
Without will there is an unconscious action & it is in marrying these poles that the will becomes conscious action.
The more we become aware & the more we create space within, the more we witness the wholeness of our being.
That without intent, the action we create can be quiet destructive.
This is coming from someone that lived in the shadows where I lead a life of destruction until I heard the rest/repair signal (Total burn out) & it told me to take all the time I needed to rest.
I eventually started listening to every part of me while emitting love to all actions done. Now this has become me, a part of my subconscious universe.
Yes we must honour our vulnerabilities, our nurturing senses to take all the time we need to rest & repair so that our fight/flight mode is truly equipped to create a beautiful earth.
If not we risk remaining in the fight/flight mode (old paradigm) where we are a slave to doing rather than being (doing without doing).
Let's listen to the woman inside us & she will guide our inner man in all our creative construction.
(This perception is my romantic way of looking at the father/mother aspect/archetype within, I hope nobody takes offence)
