In my attempt to find something to do for the next couple of hours before Stranger Things 3 is released on Netflix, I’m putting together a list of some of my theories and some speculation about what will happen in the third installment of the iconic show.
There are potential spoilers, so don’t read if you don’t potentially want something spoiled.
Let’s start with some of the more likely theories…
- Another bad season for characters with a “B” name. - Benny, Barb, Brenner, Bob… It looks like a new character named Bruce and Billy are most likely to carry on the trend. *Brenner could be alive, so we’ll see about that one.
- New Coms - The antenna that can be seen in the trailer is likely something the kids have been working on for a while and finally finish it. They put it up to have better reception for their walkie-talkies. I assume the better communication will have a big impact on their ability to fight the monster. The spot with the antenna looks to be the lookout for the ST3.
- The Missing Lifeguard - I think that Billy is too obvious a choice to be the “Missing Lifeguard” and that it could be “Heather”. The dark haired lifeguard that gets off the stand before Billy in the scene released by Netflix.
- The scope of Hawkins widens… Politics will play a role on this season and the growth of the town with the new mall. The mall will likely be the center of it all and the eventual deal will be the undoing of the Mayor.. Maybe the new mall was built on the old Hawlkins lab and they didn’t destroy the buildings underneath.
- Someone is out to kill Hopper and possibly take 11. Someone found out about all of this, and the only person that survived from the lab was Dr. Sam Owens. If it’s not him... and someone is tracking Hopper, then that could mean there is a traitor.
- Major character deaths… at the top of my list of deaths I don’t want to see, but could happen is Hopper. I feel he could make the sacrifice play and give Eleven the push to defeat the big monster.
- Does the monster grow from rats? The Shadow Monster had to stay alive somehow. Much like how Brad Pitt survived on rats in Interview with a Vampire, maybe the shadow monster uses the rats to stay alive and grow until it can find a new host to bring him things to infect like missing lifeguards and such.
Wilder Theories
- Starcourt Mall & The Russians - In ST1 the Russians were mentioned a couple of times, in ST2, Murray is convinced that there is going to be a full on Russian invasion. What if he was right, just his timeline was wrong. What if the invasion comes in ST3? What if they are the ones that own Starcourt and are conducting tests underneath trying to figure out how to recreate the gate? After all, Paul Reiser had the speech with Nancy and Jonathan about “what if the Russians found out?”
- The upside down is a world that Eleven’s mom created when she was being shocked. The Mind Flayer took it over and now is partly trapped in the real world after being forced from Will’s body at the end of ST2.
- Zombies? So the kids go see a zombie flick in the first episode, I think, and there are some shots of people looking all zombified in the trailers. What if the infection, puts people in an upside-down state… or zombie state? I know it isn’t the most likely, but it’s fun to think up these things.
So those are my top 10 fan theories for Stranger Things 3. Just a little over an hour left… what do I do now?
