"Wake up! It's time for school. Make sure you sweep your room, tidy up the kitchen and fix yourself something to eat; while I run to the market to sell inorder to pay your outstanding fees".
These were the words of our parents to us when most of us were much young. They tried all means to make ends meet while we help out in house chores. They were there to correct us when we were wrong; many a times with cane. This helped us a lot because a child that's flogged for his or her mistake will mostly not repeat the same thing. Knowing fully well that, the same punishment will take place.
But looking deeply into the "Generation Zoomers" where gentle parenting becomes a slogan.
Where a child will be at fault and instead of being scolded or flogged; will be set free all in the name of gentle parenting.
Even the bible says spare the rod and spoil a child.
Train up a child in the way he should go...
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child. But the rod of discipline will drive it far from him. ( Proverbs 22 : 15).
Were these instructions irrelevant? No! But why are we seeing it as a taboo?
Children now misbehave anyhow because they already know they'll not be punished.
Remember, the bible never says you should kill your child all in the name of discipline.
My question is, how is this of help to the society? Should it be encouraged or?
