Great story and it sounds as if those two are twins.. in crime. What more do you want, sleep perhaps but it is as it is.
I had a shelter and in those times the owners who dumped their pets told me that they had to stay together because they've always been... well, they rarely remained together because once in the shelter they could choose their friend or turned out to like it way better alone. Nothing wrong with that.
