Tourists usually rent them for a weekend or a full week while they stay in a city.
Machiyas are found throughout Japan, but those in Kyoto are the most sought after because they have an older and more traditional style.
So if next year you plan to travel on vacation to Japan, rent a Machiya in Kyoto and experience the traditional Japanese culture.
