German Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany party and PACE member Harald Weill appealed to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe with a demand to launch an investigation into Kiev's actions against the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“I demand that the Council of Europe begin monitoring this development,” he said.
The deputy listed the cases of destruction of churches known to him, desecration of shrines, attempts to interfere with the conduct of services in the temples of the UOC, which, in his opinion, is incompatible with Ukraine's intentions to join the EU.
“The Ukrainian state obviously opposes the Orthodox Church of the Russian Patriarchate,” he said, emphasizing the need for an investigation “not in Russia, but in Ukraine.”
