Bubara or "Silk Factory " was built back in 1892. in Zagreb. It was designed by architects Deutsch and Hoenigsbergand and its main purpose was manufacturing silk out of silkworms.
It is not known when the Bubara stopped it's production. The biggest building (warehouse) served as a depot for scenery of National Theatre, but the fire in early 80s destroyed most of the area which was, after the incident, occasionally used as a backdrop for shooting films.
It is a very big space. On the plot there are several groups of objects from different periods. The three - story brick building is the former warehouse of the original complex, the central ground floor building contained the automated manufacturing system itself, while the smallest house on the north plot served as manager's quarters.
In subsequent upgrades, three ground floor buildings and two - story halls were built along the eastern edge of the plot, and today, they are in the worst state that only the ruins of the outer walls are left.
In the factory area there were homeless people living occasionally, as a result, there were fires, which further exacerbated the situation but also dilapidated buildings.
Other buildings are also in poor condition, the roof and interlocking structures are completely destroyed, there are only the remains of the outer walls of the building.
I hope this otherwise very interesting location will soon experience a revival, preferably not in the face flattening to the ground just to build another boring business building.
