Set your affection on things above and not on things on earth’.
Colossians 3:2
Good morning beloved brethren in the hold of faith, today I have a burden in my heart to discuss how our affections can be put under check. You know, sometimes we fall victim of our inability to control our desires because like the scripture says, the body is always constantly fighting against the spirit and vise versa.
Talking from a personal experience, many at times, I have caught myself going down the memory lane of pain and sorrow. During such times, I can vividly remember that I do either blame myself or satan for being the cause of whatever went wrong. I do however always come back to my sense when I remember that my misery cannot change things that are now beyond amendment, I then sit up and begin to count my blessings knowing that God has blessed me with life, family and other good things in life. If He has done this thus far for me despite my unworthiness and unfaithfulness to Him, then why should I be fussing for others that He didn’t do?
The trust be told is that the enemy fights hard to destroy our joy in the Lord; he can remove our focus from the Lord and begin to envy the world. I once overheard a sister in my loca3 home cell complaining that since she repented, no man has approached her for relationship talk more of marriage. She went ahead to threaten that if she fails to meet a man before a certain period that she set for herself, which unfortunately I can’t remember, she would be left with no choice but to backslide and go back to her old boyfriends (sex friends).
If you asked me, I would tell you that just for her opening her mouth to utter those words, that was the enemy trying to trying to set her mind and affection on things on earth. In heaven, there will be no marriages and to compromise her salvation for a man is very poor exchange rate. Months after she said this, I wept for her bitterly when I heard that she was used by her so called boyfriend for money ritual. Her sanity was exchanged for wealth just as she exchanged her soul salvation for sexual pleasures and cheep materials that she got from her male friends which certainly would rot.
I once stumbled into a piece on the internet where I learnt that while communism was the order of the day in Russia, a brother was asked to give up his faith to spare his son from being tortured to death, as he watched the Gestapo force his son to spoons after spoon of salt. He was tempted to give in but his suffering son managed to call out, _ ’’dad it is not worth it, God deserves all our love”._
Beloved brethren what will it profit us if we get all we desire from the world and walk straight to hell?
If we appreciate God, our affection would be for things that pleases Him. He deserves it.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, please teach me to love you with all my heart, soul and spirit.
Dear Lord, kill every inordinate desires that mr. flesh may bring my way to trick me.
Thank you father for this word, help me to live by it in Jesus name, amen.
