I understand, but a country is = politics. You cannot separate politics from a country since your actions and affections for a country are political even if they are not party-political or based on some ideology. Also, with your logic, you could argue that imperialist Spanish in Cuba during the 19th century were patriotic about Cuba. Basically, you are saying that patriotism is loving country even if the whole country is bad and horrible.
