There is a lot of research about "alternative media" which in many cases is not media but far-right extremist websites. And people who trust in alternative media are not searching for alternatives to bad information and lies - they search for bad information and lies that confirm their tribal political identity.

Also, if you do not trust media, you do not have to read it. You can find info via other sources as academic papers, think-tank documents or individual bloggers
