Pongal is the main festival of Tamil Nadu. It starts from 14th of January 17th of January every year.
The celebration starts with Bhogi, the preceding day of Pongal. The Pongal day is celebrated as Makar Sankranti or Uttarayana in other parts of India.
The next day is Mattu Pongal. Tamils do pooja on the cattles, as they believe cattles as the sources of wealth in the form of Milk and dairy products, fertilizer and transportation. The famous jallikattu is a part of this.
Kaanum Pongal is the final day of the festival. It is the time of reunion of the family and beloved ones.
