I just wrapped up another month of providing a large sailing organization with their photos they use on social media. The remarkable thing is that this file of 60 photos is marked "Batch23" That means Ive been doing it for 2 years this month! I didn't think it would last 3 months when I started. Fortunately, guess what? I love to shoot on the water and have been a sailor since I was young. My dad taught sailing in summers off from college in the 50's! You could say it's in my blood...
24 months x 60 photos, means I have amassed a collection of 1440 stock photos in one specific category! I guess I should go get them on some stock site now, right? Everything from tall ships to racing, cruising in the tropics and of course, a strong dose of the San Diego sailing scene which is a very rich one all on its own. I need to shoot 15 photos a week. Sometimes I get lucky and shoot 500 in a week!
I've actually thought that maybe the theme of my blogging here could be the travails of a stock photographer. I've given it a long hard think the past few months. It's a two edged opportunity for me because if my blog is about trying to make it in the world of stock, I will actually have to go and do that instead of procrastinating about it which is so easy to do. Much like Steemit here itself, Stock is not going to make you much of an income for some time. Patience and persistence is the key. As it is for just about anything you can think of that is worthwhile!
In fact, I find it ironic that my subject for this post is about whether or not I should do a stock photography, how-to, on Steemit. I certainly didn't plan it when I sat down to write tonight. I was just looking at 60 sailing photos and giving them captions and finished in time to do this. The will I or won't I is playing very hard in the head and the heart. My hang up is not in the documenting of the process here. It is the actual work that needs to be put into it. If I could devote 1 hour a day to it, 6 days a week... Maybe that is the whole premise because anybody interested in reading about it is going to be in the same boat! Right?
I'm getting close I think.
