“What are the cards that I should get?” “This game is only for those how can purchase cards.” These are the most common words that I hear from people who were just starting. Let’s face it, it is hard to get it right when you were just starting. But good thing, Splinterlands have a renting system where players who can’t purchase cards, still get the cards that could help them reach a higher tier or at least give them a chance to win with those who already have a decent set of cards.
However, how about those who are just really starting and don’t have DEC to rent cards? Probably you were thinking that standard cards can’t keep up on those who have rented cards, right? Actually yes, you are right but you just need to know how to counter. Yes, my friend, sometimes you just need to know how to counter the enemy’s frequently used splinter. How to do this? Easy, once you already found an enemy in ranked game just hover your mouse to the recently played team.
In this way, you could see how an enemy fights. Chances are, you already know which splinter he usually uses or what cards he already has (I am able to know if there is a Llama-Kron coming on my way).
Tactics
Now I know what his splinters are, but what should use to counter them?
The next step, choose an appropriate splinter for you to win. Let's take an example, water splinter Alric Stormbringer, enhance magic attack by 1.
To counter this, you can either choose to another water splinter which is Bortus to negate the enhancement
or use earth splinter, lyanna natura for additional 1 health
and choose Unicorn mustang to have a magic reduction with its void skill
and add monsters that have snipe or sneak skills.
Conclusion
It is better to experiment on which splinter to use and not to use. Eventually, you will be able to defeat all your opponents with just standard cards only. As well, try to learn and remember the team composition that your opponents used against you so that you can copy it or you already know how to counter them.
In any case, you would like to test new decks against previously fought teams, you can check this post for a battle simulation.
