Hello my friends!
Today I would like to tell you about a unique phenomenon of nature. I have said many times that I am a great lover of nature and I like to watch TV shows about countries, nature, animals, traveling.
And just this week my husband and I watched another program and learned that it turns out in Mexico in the area of mount michoacán there are protected areas, where a billion butterflies arrive - danaid for the winter.
They sit on the same coniferous trees, sticking them so that the tree becomes orange. This is the only type of butterflies that like birds migrate from North to South in the cold season for a long winter hibernation.
And in the spring, during the awakening of nature and the onset of heat, all this beauty wakes up, shakes its wings and is charged to the sky, preparing for a long flight, where they usually spend in flights in southern Canada and North America, overcoming the path of more than 1,200 kilometers.
This unique phenomenon became known in the 40s of the last century. Canadian zoologist F. Urkhart drew attention to the fact that the butterflies of danaida, with a beautiful characteristic orange color, which spend the summer in Canada, disappear in the winter and reappear there next summer. He tried to put tags on the butterfly wings. 38 years have passed and as a result of researches, thanks to the help of a huge number of volunteers, it was succeeded to learn places of their hibernation.
Currently, colonies of sleeping butterflies attract tourists from all over the world. See and capture footage of sleeping butterflies - a real success. Migration usually begins at the end of October. Butterflies come to the same places and sit on the same trees. Scientists continue to study how this is possible?
Butterflies, which have a very short life, they are able to revive 4 generations of butterflies during the sleeping period. And yet the born butterflies know and remember the path of their migration back to Canada for the summer? It is believed that it is genetics, the ability to recognize their habitats. Also studied in what way butterflies find their way to places of hibernation?
Biologists from Massachusetts believe that butterflies are guided by magnetic fields. The light-sensitive magnetic sensors are butterfly antennae. And it helps them to move in the right direction.
The uniqueness of this protected area has been recognized by UNESCO, which included it among the natural heritage of mankind. How beautiful and rich Mexico is with its antiquity and natural uniqueness!!!
You have to visit this country to see the unique natural phenomenon, which I told you.
Since I haven't been there, the photos took the Internet site:
