Why are many attracted to sports, probably it is fun, probably it is the competition, probably the economics part of it, or the sense of achievement in a short period of time with a win. I was attracted to it because I was oversize when I was young and wanted to remove that tag off my name and the only way was to sweat the tag out. Therefore I started taking interest in sports which made loosing something in life a fun activity.
Probably the weight part of it was a purely social, my value in my circle of friends increased as I started to loose the precious energy which was conserved in my body. And this gave me more confidence, but for us humans our confidence is a function of others opinion and in today's world other's opinion becomes important for our own survival. If loosing weight was the poster boy of a winning team, the hard working manager was none other than the values which is given by any sport.
Concepts such as 'never give-up' is not so simple to digest for a young and growing mind but when we learn a sport it teaches life in its own bittersweet way. The fact that it teaches you to manage your emotions through win's and losses is the biggest gain out of any sport. It thought me the discipline needed to grind the rock, strategy needed to see things ahead of time, the alertness needed to handle the uncertainties and the importance of having an ambition to sit on top of a mountain. It helps you understand how to socialise with others, it teaches when to switch on your energetic self and when to give rest to your raging temper. Most importantly it thought me to win majestically and to loose gracefully with a badge of honor, called Smile :).
