German and French were obligatory in my high school.
After four years, when I could make a choice, I dropped French ( because the French book we had had to read bored me and because German is close(r) to Dutch ( neighboring countries )). I now regret having dropped French, as I prefer it over German and it's closer to Portuguese ;<)

I actually remember the German name of the book 'Die Verwandlung' but I also really like the sound of 'Metamorphosis' :<)
