Bin derzeit wieder in Bulgarien unterwegs und habe das erste Mal in meinem Leben den Ausbruch eines Waldbrandes miterlebt.
Angeblich geriet das Feuer beim Abkochen von Winterkonserven außer Kontrolle und hat dann eine ganze Scheune und die umliegenden Häuser und Pflanzen erfasst. Dabei sind auch Tiere ums Leben gekommen.
Am Dienstag entfachte ein weiteres Feuer in der Nähe der historischen Festung von Belogradchik, konnte im Laufe des Tages aber anscheinend wieder unter Kontrolle gebracht werden.
Generell habe ich jetzt gesehen, wie schwierig es ist, Waldbrände wieder zu stoppen, wenn sich diese einmal ausgebreitet haben. Das kann schnell ein Kampf gegen Windmühlen werden.

I’m currently traveling in Bulgaria and, for the first time in my life, witnessed a wildfire break out.
Apparently, the fire got out of control while someone was boiling winter preserves and then spread to an entire barn and the surrounding houses and vegetation. Animals also lost their lives in the fire.
Another fire broke out near the historic fortress of Belogradchik on Tuesday, but it appears to have been brought under control again over the course of the day.
In general, I’ve now seen how difficult it is to stop forest fires once they’ve spread. It can quickly turn into a battle against windmills.
