I frequently get into little arguments with my spellchecker. About 90% of the time, I win. (gloat gloat) While I'm proud of that fact, it often just gets annoying.
The thing that gets the most annoying is when I want to use a less-common form of a word. Many verbs also have a noun form and an adjective form.
Annoy is a good example.
Today, as I was writing, I wrote a situation where the bad guys are concerned that they'll be put under surveillance by the A'mara following a certain incident on Irola. I thought, hey, I'll bet there is a simple verb form of that word:
Of course, spellcheck didn't like that word at all. But a quick trip over to Google proved that my instinct was right.
According to the online Merriam-Webster:
Examples: "I expect the A'mara will endeavor to surveil us more now," said Jarly.
"I'm surprised they weren't surveilling us already. Any other abári would have put surveillance on us a long time ago," Xanthine replied. "What about us? Do we surveil them?"
"Of course, we surveilled them, what else would you expect?" Fashi exasperated.
"You were the surveillant?" Xanthine asked, shocked.
"Keeps me from being bored," Fashi quipped.
