I'm often late to these song parties. It's okay, it doesn't bother me because being late means there's lots of great covers and parodies to find and feature. Today is an exception. Not only is it a relatively new song, but it also featured in the Grammies recently, so is fresh on many people's minds. However, like many of my features, this one was inspired by finding a great parody first... (to be saved for last...)
Original
Shallow - by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper
I'm not a huge fan of Lady Gaga, but I have to like this beautiful ballad. The ultra-slow tempo makes it a challenge for cover artists too - it's easy to rush something that's meant to be slow. Additionally, the two singers voices really need to mesh nicely to work with this song. Such a challenge for artists to follow...
Covers
Shallow presented by Caleb and Kelsey of Anthem Lights
This couple have voices that really do this song justice. They have the pace right and bring the emotion with them. It's a well done cover.
Shallow presented by Kingdom Street
This was the other once I chose to feature this time. Another couple who have voices that meld very nicely together.
Parodies
A Grammy Host is Born - presented by Alicia Keys and James Corden
This was one of today's gems. The subject is fairly obvious since the original also featured this year, but this parody is cute, fun and well-executed. If you haven't already heard it, it's definitely worth the time.
WTF selection of the day
Rampage by Heidi Mae
If you're a Joker fan, this is a must watch. Hard to imagine these characters doing a nice and sweet ballad, but that's precisely what we have. It's well constructed and well performed. It's worth a listen and maybe a "like" as all these parodies are pretty new.
Today's Finale!!!
A Star Wars is Born - presented by Nerdist
I'm not a fan of what JJ Abrams has done to Star Wars these past few episodes, but this is a very touching take on this amazing ballad. The video itself is extremely well done and true to the original. If you see the recent Star Wars films as the slow-moving, emotive train wreck it's been, then this could even be a bit of a tear-jerker.
That's it for today! I hope you had as much fun as I did!
As usual, I'm simply sharing YouTube videos on a theme, all rights remain with the original.
