Since starting these musical forays, my experience of music has expanded amazingly. I've discovered many musicians and styles of music that I never would have looked for on my own. (Or it would have taken a lot longer.)

This is another of those songs - 'Cups', as performed by Anna Kendrick for the movie, "Pitch Perfect". The Wikipedia write-up is interesting for those of us who didn't see the movie. What surprised me was finding the original song - "When I'm Gone" by Lulu and the Lampshades - was finding a group that I really didn't like - the tone might appeal when I'm feeling really redneck, perhaps, but I found it hard to listen to.
Somehow, someone saw this diamond in the rough and made something amazing of it.

Original

When I'm Gone - by Lulu and the Lampshades

It actually improved on its second running. I really didn't like the way their voices sounded - their live versions were even harder to listen to for me. But maybe you'll like it better than I.
The original does have the cups, which is definitely fun. Amazing to think an absolute phenomenon started here.

Cups - presented by Anna Kendrick in "Pitch Perfect"

I can listen to this one a lot. I love her voice and the way the video is made. My only gripes are the matters of health and safety (she should be wearing something over her hair - especially if this was for a movie) and, of course, she goes off to leave the biscuits to burn. Still, it's a fun song, fun video and I love to listen to it from time to time.

Covers

Cups - presented by Cimorelli

These amazing sisters do an excellent job of this song. They have excellent vocals and do a wonderful job with the cups (even in mirror image of each other!) They do lots of other songs too - always with excellent results - so they're totally worth checking out!

Cups - presented by Sam Tsui, Alex G, Kina Grannis and Kurt Schneider

Here's another group that just blew me away today. Their vocals are outstanding, their cups routine perfect - in fact, they loved it so much that they used the cups routine for other songs as well, so check out their channel!

Parodies

The Con Song - by Becos'play Group

Warning - some language!
This was as close I could come to a WTF selection today. Their lyrics are cute, as are their costumes. Their cups are good, as are their vocals. These ladies clearly had fun. Totally worth a listen.

Instalok - Baron's Gone - by Instalok

I didn't expect to like this one, but he actually had me at the keyboard tapping just as if it were the cups. The vocals are pretty good, lyrics well written, and the video is fun. I don't know this game at all, but I really enjoyed this work.

Today's Finale!!!

Cup Song - Extreme Edition - by Paint

Another version that really blew me away. He's taken the song and made it his own. He's done all his own a capella, plus a number of different cup parts, including glasses and mugs which very well may be unusable now! Anyway, his work his truly excellent and it's likely I'll feature him again in the future.

That's it for today! I hope you had as much fun as I did!

As usual, I'm simply sharing YouTube videos on a theme, all rights remain with the original.
