Blame my husband for this one - he shared a couple of good parodies a few weeks ago and I just knew they were going to have to go into one of my forays. In fact, I'm pretty certain this one will need a part 2 at some point because there are so many wonderful covers and parodies of this epic song.
Original
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
Amazing piece of music. If you're not familiar with the original, it's worth a watch/listen. It's lyrically tragic and technically magnificent, handling tempo, style and key changes like the greatest Classical masters of old.
Of course a piece this difficult and magnificent draw imitators in like nothing else...
Bohemian Rhapsody presented by Pentatonix
I have to confess I'm often under-awed by this group, but this is one of their greater successes, in my opinion. Their vocal styles work really well on this song. I like how they do the video itself, a combination of their own style and mimicking the original video.
Bohemian Rhapsody on Boomwhackers - presented by HarvardTHUD
This has to be one of my favorite covers of the day. This is a difficult piece of music, yet this group have managed to put together 16 people each playing two to six plastic tubes cut to a specific pitch. I think it's amazing! Not perfect, but awfully good. (Of equal interest are the occasional voices that just can't help contribute to the piece.)
WTF selection of the day
Bohemian Rhapsody Performed in 42 Styles - presented by Ten Second Songs
Technically a cover, I count it for my WTF selection because of the craziness that happens when you try to present 42 styles of anything! He has an excellent voice and talent, but the way he presents had me laughing quite a bit throughout the presentation. It's probably my favorite presentation today, actually.
Bohemian Rhapsody: Star Wars Edition presented by UAT Digital Video
Not a bad parody.
The lyrics could be a bit better, perhaps... and the voices are a little flat quite frequently, but they did a good job on the costumes and sets and you certainly can't fault their enthusiasm.
Opinion Rhapsody - presented by Dustin & Genevieve
How often have you got into an argument on Facebook, Twitter or some other form of social media over opinions - whether political, religious or whatever? I try to avoid them, but sometimes I get suckered in anyway.
This parody is a very well written, performed and filmed. Some of it is very obviously green-screened, but it doesn't really detract from the quality of this performance. It's worth a listen/watch - no matter what your political opinions are or whether you're a "white warrior," a "white savior," or a troll...
Today's Finale!!!
Bohemian Gravity
I put this as my finale today because it was a science-oriented parody which really took me by surprise. I don't understand string theory at all, but I can appreciate this guy's vocal quality, the lyrical masterpiece it is along with the huge amount of work put in to make this a capella piece work as well as any Peter Hollens or Jared Halley piece. (And what is that puppet anyway?!)
As I was afraid of, I'm going to have to come back to this song - there are so many more great pieces out there!
That's it for today! I hope you had as much fun as I did! Until next time...
As usual, I'm simply sharing YouTube videos on a theme, all rights remain with the original.
