Flashing back to the 80s today, and I can't think of anyone more iconic than Michael Jackson and one of his most famous songs: Beat it. (I'm sure I'll pick up some of his others at some point.)
Although I am sure I'd seen the original video before, I watched it again looking for key elements in the video to compare to some of the copycats out there...

What can you say about the King of Pop? It's a great song, great video with great dancing. It was released in 1983 and spent time as the US no. 1. (More info from Wikipedia.)

This cover came out in 2008. It takes the original a step harder, I think, but otherwise remain very true to the original song and video. There are plenty of tributes to Michael including the glove and the moonwalking. Many elements in this video mimicked the original. I enjoyed this one.

I enjoyed this parody. They did an excellent job with the lyrics, the vocals and the video. As I watched the video, I recognized most of the key elements from the original video, making it quite impressive. Give it a watch.

Okay, so it's a political one, but I still think it's funny. It was well-written, well sung and was enjoyable. I don't think it matters which side of the political divide you are on, it's cute and fun. (I shared a Trump one some months ago too.) I choose these songs for their own merits not necessarily because I agree with the message.

The King of Parody takes on the King of Pop (more than once) - apparently, Michael Jackson thought it was amusing and authorized this song's release in 1984. It quickly became a hit in its own right with Weird Al's ingenious lyrics and scrupulous attention to detail in the video. (He even used some of the same dancers who were in Michael Jackson's video!) Amazing, isn't it? I'm so glad that the King of Pop was a good sport and gave Weird Al use of the song - though Jackson did get royalties from Eat It!
