I think if you are not a child you cannot blame your parents for your beliefs. Surely indoctrination when we were children has something to do with it, but I would say that most of the cases people are completely responsible for the beliefs they hold, they actively want to believe such things, not because they were taught those things, but because it is more comfortable for them to think that they are true.
To say that people are like that because their parents taught them, is to remove the role of agent from people, and perpetuate that belief, which many times it has been sought to impart from above; that the human is a useless burden on the planet, which only knows graze on the earth's surface.
RE: This is why people get upset when their beliefs are challenged.
