Yeah, I agree, dignity is one of those things that cannot be taken away from you.
I always notice how little I am personally convinced of my dignity when there is a disturbance in everyday life.
I would see that as something normal, because it is common to doubt oneself when things like that happen. Not just with dignity but with anything else. It is like asking ourselves if we acted well in an extraordinary situation; if we did good or bad; if we were just or unjust; if we were smart or foolish, etc. That happens all the time. It also that our perception of things is always subjective, and we don't know for sure such answers.
In the end, only you can know if you acted with dignity, and only he can know if he acted with dignity. The people watching have their own opinions, but not the truth.
