Short trip to Karnei Hittin - an unknown extinct volcano.

Hello here. I published already a few images from this trip to the northern area of the country, but today I'm starting with the whole story and the bigger series of the images taken in this historical place. I went there with my friend finishing these days his long project - a historical book about this Area and what is happened there in the 11th-12th century/centuries.

From the main road, this mount looks like the regular hill like many in this area, and nothing says about its ancient past and great history. If to drive or to walk around the "hill", from one of its sides one can see the twin peaks of the top of this mountain. The tho horns pick "is actually the mouth of a dormant volcano that became active around four million years ago. We started or walk from the bottom of the volcano at 6:30 AM. This hour of the day from the top of the mountain Kinneret reminded some shining plate - rising Sun painted it GOLD.

The more known notability of this exact place - is the Battle of Hattin - Saladin's victory over the Crusaders in 1187.* "The Battle of Hattin was fought in summer when the grass was tinder-dry. Saladin's troops set fire to the grass, after cutting off the Crusaders' access to water in the Sea of Galilee. Saladin built a "victory dome," Qubbat al-Nasr, on the hill. Thietmar, a German pilgrim who visited the site in 1217, wrote that the "temple Saladin had erected to his gods after the victory is now desolate." In the early 17th century, ruins were found on the summit that appeared to be those of a church. Prior to 1948, an Arab village, Hittin, lay at the foot of the hill. Excavations were carried out on the hill in 1976 and 1981."* by WIKI.

We spent two hours on the top of the sleeping volcano. It was very silent around, not including the singing prairie birds around and above us, so I tried to listen carefully, maybe the volcano hum and noise are still recognizable. Unfortunately or fortunately I did not make any scientific discovery that day.

My friend asked rights to take a portrait of one of the cows relaxing in the dry grasses.

After this, we moved to the next site of our documentary-anthropological trip - the Arbel mount, which is located just a distance of few kilometers from the extinct volcano and keeps no less interesting stories in its caves. It's how Mount Arbel looks from Karnei Hittin at 7:30 AM.
