Being able to do something ourselves around the home is a great thing that can help one cut cost, especially in this period when the economy is declining and the cost of living wants to kill the living. Having such skills can go a long way in saving cost that would have been spend on hiring a professional to get the job done and at the end of the day, when you calculate what you've saved or prevent yourself from spending on hiring professionals, you'll be able to put such amounts into something productive and important that you can't fix yourself, making it a great getaway mechanism from downing in financial stress. Do I have any of such skills? Find out below.
Talking about skills like this, for many men, it's usually presume that men have electronic skills and so would be able to fix any electronic things within the house, but I'm here to tell you that not all men have that skills and not everyone can take the risk. I for one, am so afraid of getting shocked or electrocuted by electricity that I literally always run away from anything that has to do with fixing electronic or wiring. But then, it doesn't mean I haven't done it before. In fact, I can vividly remember when my parents first moved in to our home, we haven't done the wiring, and so dad hired someone to just do a simple wiring to connect the generator to the parlour socket, and light, so we can light up the house bas as well charge our device.
After a few days of going to the parlour to charge and having to be sent I different errand because the saw me on the phone, I quickly put away my fear of electricity and gather some wires we had, connect it to the wire on the floor and run it into my own Room and connect it to a socket I just brought. Although when my dad saw it, he was skeptical about it, but when he saw it worked just fine, after some days, he encouraged me to help use other wires we've around to run the electricity into his room and the vicinity of the house for serious measures, and I was happy to help and do it, which ultimately helped us get buy for years, until day finally had enough to call in a professional for proper wiring of the house.
Aside this, I also learn tailoring and can sew cloths for myself and I've even sew cloths for women on few occasions, even though I only learn how to sew men clothes during the cause of my training, so this is one skill I can also helps out with around the house, to cut cost of paying a professional to do the sewing for us and charge us Extra. However, although I rarely do this because my wife is a fashion designer by profession and since it's a main job, she usually does this. But in always happy to help out while she's at it.
And that's not to forget my skills as a cobbler, which I learnt during my NYSC skills acquisition lessons, and further learn to enhance my understanding and skill through a friend, so that means I can help make a new footwear or repair a damage one at little or no cost around the house, without the need to go buy every footwear we need or throw away damage ones that still seem good, since I can help make or fix them. I believe this are good enough skills I've to help around the house and all are do it yourself that helps cut cost.
Overall, I enjoyed doing this things, well, except the wiring aspect that I'm always scared of getting shocked by electricity. So aside that I'm actually happy doing every other ones as long as possible, or should I say as long as I need to cut cost due to the garage economy.
