Hello guys, It's a wonderful day today and I hope you’re having a great time. I must confess that this isn’t what I planned to write about today but I guess something caught my attention. I was scrolling through Youtube as I always do and I found lewis howe’s video and the caption of that video was:
“Loneliness ISN’T about being alone”.
So I thought that I should bring it up and share my view on it.
My Thoughts
Well, I must confess that I spend the majority of my time being alone so forgive me if I’m a little bit biased..Smiles. For me, Loneliness isn’t about being alone. Like I said, I spend most of my time with myself and I find out that I don’t feel lonely.
As a matter of fact, I prefer spending more time with myself than I do with anyone else. That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy other people’s company, but, I don’t feel the need to put or anchor my sense of being on others.
Ankit Shah, a guest in Lewis howe’s podcast said “People who are lonely and people who are not lonely spend the same amount of time with others. Lonely people don’t spend any more time alone. Loneliness is not about proximity. We’ve all felt lonely in a crowd. You can be in Times Square on new year’s eve and still feel alone. You feel alone in the subway. Loneliness isn't a lack of proximity to people. Loneliness is how you feel about your relationships. When you go on a business trip, you might miss your friends and family, but you know they are there. You know they’re missing you. You know they care about you. You don’t feel lonely. You might miss them. Versus if you’re surrounded by people, and you think nobody cares, that’s when you feel lonely. It’s how you feel about those relationships”.
I totally agree with what he has said. I do believe that you can have a lot of people around you and still feel lonely and lost. So it isn’t about isolation or let me not use the word “isolation” but I guess you understand what I’m saying.
So, for those of you who love your own company and you’ve heard people say some creepy things about you being lonely, well, you’re not lonely. You just feel comfortable with yourself which is definitely a good thing. This indicates that you actually know yourself.
Loneliness isn’t about feeling connected with others but also about feeling connected to yourself. When you lack connection with yourself, you feel lonely. And guess what, the best way to create a connection with yourself is to spend time alone or is there a better way?
If there is, let me know in the comment section below. So thanks guys. As always I love ya. I don’t know what you guys think about this loneliness stuff. So let me drop the question again:
DOES BEING ALONE MAKE YOU LONELY?
