In Nigeria a lot of strange things happen and i grew up living with the fear of giving to beggars because of the very many horrible stories i heard.
I've heard stories of people disappearing, vomiting, their private parts missing and the most hilarious of them all was someone turning into a yam. Gosh I'm sure you might have heard worse.
I've lived with that fear for over 8 years now and Today something amazing happened, i made a different move.
So i was sitting in this mini bus that seats 7 passengers and i sat close to the door and there was a traffic light stop, a begger came and started talking, i reached out to my bag, picked a clean naira note and handed to him, he was so grateful but the shocking thing was that every other person in the bus started bringing out different denominations of naira note and handed it over to him.
It was a good move but the one thing on my mind was why did people wait for me to give first? I guess they expected me to turn into a yam but since i didn't, they felt safe.
One thing I'm sure of is that it was in their minds to give but there were too careful. I overcame my fear today, so i think when it comes to giving, care less should be the move
