As someone who went through the effort to collect a complete set, I don't actually see a reason to try and get every single card (unless you are like me and like having complete sets).

This is not intended as criticism of the cards, but there are a lot I'm pretty sure I'll never use (without some sort of contest scenario). A lot of them simply don't fit my play style.

My original goal had been to simply collect all the ships and origins as those will always be useful.
I definitely advocate for just getting the cards you need / expect to use!
