This is a sea urchin or as they are called in Hawaii, Vana. The spines are very brittle and sharp, and they live on the bottom of the ocean. Sometimes when snorkeling, swimming or surfing, people accidentally step on them! Ouch! I have gotten them stuck in my feet before, it hurts!聽
