As you probably already know, I am pretty busy and active playing my kids' soccer. Attend at least one game every Saturday and preferably two if possible. We have been affiliated with the football club for over 11 years and I have already had several roles there. I have been a trainer for the minis, the 6 to 8 year olds and coordinator of the E department. (youth up to 11 years).
I have always done this with great pleasure but, like many others, ran into the problem every time: Communication. That is something that seems difficult in a big club. The different committees do not know what they are doing and therefore often create confusion for parents and players. I was disturbed by this for a long time, but never really had the opportunity to mean anything club-wide.
until ........ a few weeks ago. A call was made from the club to its members and parents if there were people who wanted to join the board. The board consists of 7 members for a club of 1200 playing members. The current board resigned, at least not all, and there was room for new board members. I thought to myself that when I strive for improvement in communication, I have to work on it myself within the club and this was my chance to actually do this. So I registered with the board that I was interested in the vacancy for board member with the portfolio communication.
So yesterday was the big night :) There was a big meeting in which the new government would be chosen to go. There were no new registrations for the role I had applied to, but the members can still vote against. When the agenda point approached I was presented and (which was very nice) this was received with a big applause which means that the members agreed unanimously with my nomination. Of course I have met many people over the years and they and me and many people know how I am so there is certainly trust.
I also have a new committee of 4 people around me who will help me improve internal and external communication and establish a good vision and strategy with a view to communication. I'm really looking forward to working with these people and taking the club to a higher level.
Our objective is to improve internal and external communication in such a way that members, parents and other interested parties are informed at the right times through the right channels and thus get more commitment to the club. It is a challenge, but challenges are there to meet.
In addition to my portfolio, we as a board are also responsible for the policy within the club, decision-making regarding choices that must be made and the management of a large group of volunteers who work for the club every day. That is a big responsibility and a great challenge ... I am confident that it will work out well and I am really looking forward to it !!!
