School Safety Drill on Active Attacks: Teaching Students to Lockdown, Hide, Run, Alert, and Prepare
Hello, my fellow Hivers!💞
Today, I attended the School Safety Drill on Active Attacks at my children's school. As a mother, I always want to be present in their school activities. Even though I am busy selling vegetables and working on our farm, I still try to make time for them. I have one child in Grade 5 and another in Kindergarten studying at this school.
This activity is important because we parents always worry about the safety of our children. We send them to school because we want them to learn and have a better future. Of course, we also want them to come home safely every day.
The drill was about what students and teachers should do if an armed person enters the school. I know this is something we do not want to happen, but I believe it is better to be prepared than not to know what to do during an emergency.
Before the activity started, we parents had time to chat with one another. We asked how everyone was doing and shared stories about our children and daily lives. Honestly, I enjoyed that moment. Even though our conversations were simple, they made us happy.
As a PTA officer, I was also happy to spend time with our school principal and fellow parents. We talked about different things while waiting for the activity to begin. It felt good to see parents who were willing to attend and support the school's programs.
When the drill started, I watched the students participate. I noticed that some were curious, especially the Kindergarten and Grade 1 pupils. Maybe they were wondering why they needed to practice those actions. I felt that activities like this are important so we need learn what to do and follow their teachers instructions during an emergency.📢
While watching them, I thought about my own children. As a mother, I never want them to experience a real situation like this. It is scary to imagine, but their safety is always one of my biggest concerns.
Today's activity realizing that being a parent is not only about providing food, school supplies, and other needs. It is also about showing support and being involved in their education and safety.
I may be busy with my work as a vegetable seller and farmer, but I will always try to be present whenever I can. These moments are important to me as a mother.
Thank you for reading my story.
