The way I came up with this story is a bit different. I was watching a movie with Stephen Hawking, playing a role of a scientist trying to get away from a laboratory in some South American country. I was OK with that. It was pretty good film, not a blockbuster, but you get to learn Lovecraft like details (a bit extreme) through the whole movie.
I liked the movie a lot. It was really exciting, even though the beginning reminds me a bit of a boring routine of a scientist. Objectively, I think it is not even as entertaining as the middle part and the ending is far better. Yes, some movie makers do like to drag the beginning a bit. But, the beginning was the best part of the movie. That sounds weird, it was in my thoughts, but I am a scientist. It is common to think like this.
I’ll tell you why the beginning was so special to me. The leading character of the movie was a guy who was addicted to an AI. However, the AI was not the god. The AI was a demon that allows him to live. For this purpose, the main character get himself locked into a laboratory tested for his activity levels. What he did was to tell the AI things that he had good memories of.
For example, he would slowly tell the AI his family life, his wife, his children. For example, his daughter falling from a swing when she was a tender of 17. In the end, for example, the AI came up with the idea of showing him the worst memories as well as the best ones. This was as good thing for him. The purpose was to free him from the laboratory and to go home. However, his wife did not agree. She was against him going back. She, at this point, had realized that the AI was not evil and was a good friend.
The best part was the end of the movie. You think up to the end, that it is a good movie and you do not give it too much of your time. In the end, it is just the opposite. You give it 20 times more of your time than you thought. I am a scientist, so I know what I am talking about. The final part of the movie is amazing and for this reason, it is one of the best movies I have ever seen.
I came to the conclusion that I had to make a story out of the details that they showed to the audience. I wanted to make something good for me and for the audience, just like in the movie. It did not have to be related to the movie, but it had to have a similar impact.
So, I created something great and new in the end. I surely did like the movie very much. It was an incredible turn in the story. Plus, the purpose was fulfilled. I thought it was something unique. I was very happy with the maturity of the story, because I did not want to be like those that do scientific stories and choose something too routine.
It was a new thing for me and it worked. The story was very interesting for me, because I was looking for something special. I wanted to make the story with parts of the movie and other parts of a story. I did not get it straight the first time. I was busy with my team. “Why don’t you just tell the readers what you thought about the movie?” It was too complicated for me to think so. But, time went by, and I had the time to think about it. It was a good movie so the detail was not bad. So, I decided to keep it the way I imagined for the first time. But, for the rest of the story, I went back to the general idea. The first version and the second version are the same, but they are only different parts of the same concept.
The first version had characters that were more “ordinary” than the typical main characters. I was more open for making those kind of people. At the end, they chose the traditional story path. The main character was a man who was driven by the AI. He stood against his family. The family was on the other side of the AI.
So, the plot was all over and the story became a normal thing. I believe it was very good. I was satisfied with the story. It seemed like a bit of a revenge for the movie. If you watched Lost One Forever from Half of Freedom, you understand what I am talking about. I suppose you could some elements from the first version in the follow-up stories.
You could learn a lot about me as a person. If you think about it, I am a science and I have a lot of free time. I thought for a long time about what to write and how to write it. I decide fiction stories were something that made sense to me.
These are just some of my thoughts about the things we can learn from the truth behind the words. Writing is a process and not an end result. So, any writer can do all the above and maybe more.
