Hey gamers, how's everyone doing? Hope you're all doing great. I'm feeling pretty good myself, and I've been playing a ton these past few days since I finally had the chance to sit down and grind through some solid gaming sessions. So taking advantage of that free time, I kept pushing forward in Space Hulk, and we're continuing right where we left off in Chapter 1, where we finally reached the platform where we need to reactivate the power in order to secure the bridgehead.

Securing the Bridgehead

2.jpg

Once you get that power core reactivated, the mission doesn't just end there, oh no. You've got to make your way back to the main bridge of the ship for extraction, and let me tell you, that walk back is anything but a peaceful stroll. One thing I really appreciate about this section is how the game handles enemy spawns during the trip. Genestealers don't just show up once and disappear, they keep pouring in from vents, shadows, and broken corridors the entire time you're moving.

3.jpg

And here's the kicker: if you decide to stand your ground and keep fighting instead of pushing forward, they just... don't stop coming. It's like the game is nudging you, almost forcing you, to keep moving instead of camping in one spot trying to farm kills. It creates this constant tension where you're never really sure if it's smarter to push through or hold and clear, and honestly, that back-and-forth decision-making is what makes this stretch of the mission so engaging.

The corridors themselves add to the pressure too. Everything is tight, dimly lit, and full of blind corners, so you're constantly checking your flanks while your squad pushes toward the extraction point. Combine that with the Genestealers' speed, since these things are fast and erratic when they charge, and you get this constant low-level panic that never really lets up until you're back at the bridge.

Defend and Hold the Position

Holding that bridgehead is honestly one of the more intense stretches I've played so far in this game. You really can't relax for a second, because as soon as you think a wave is finally over, another batch of Xenos comes crawling out of the walls, floor, ceiling, you name it. This is where the AI companions I mentioned in my last post really start to shine, since they hold flanks well and actually help thin out the horde instead of just standing around looking heroic while doing nothing.

It's also a great showcase of how Space Hulk: Deathwing wants you to play as a squad rather than a lone wolf charging into everything. Terminator armor makes you feel powerful, sure, but these wave-based defense sections make it very clear that even a heavily armored Space Marine can get overwhelmed if he tries to solo an endless swarm of Genestealers without backup. Managing cooldowns on abilities, watching your ammo during the busier waves even with how generous the game usually is, and knowing exactly when to fall back a few steps instead of holding a doorway too long, all of that comes into play here. It's a genuinely satisfying gameplay loop, and once that last wave finally goes down, there's a real sense of relief, like you actually earned that extraction.

Intro to Chapter 2: The Cadia's Hand

14.jpg

So once that mission wraps up, we move on into Chapter 2, called The Cadia's Hand, where our next objective is to locate and purge the ship of the Dark Angels once we track it down. Sounds like it's going to bring a whole new set of challenges, and honestly I'm curious to see how the atmosphere shifts once we're deeper into this new section of the Space Hulk. Based on how things have escalated so far, I'm expecting things to get even tighter and more chaotic the further we go.

I'm going to leave that mission for the next post though, gamers, since I want to actually sit down and give Chapter 2 the attention it deserves instead of rushing through it just to cram it into this one. So that's it for today's update on my Space Hulk: Deathwing run. Hope you enjoyed following along with Chapter 1's finale, and I'll see you all in the next post!
