Prelude
Hello everybody, how is everyone doing? While the recommended card to be shared this week is River Nymph, I didn't have a good match to share on it. My noxious fumes matchup mainly allow me to pick Fire or Death where I have Forgotten One or Harklaw to sustain the match up. But this week I am going to pick on a card which I find it useful and there is a variant of it in every splinter. Today I will focus on Torrent Fiend for water splinter.
Thoughts on Torrent Fiend
This is just one of the many fiends in the game and this water splinter variant looks like a jelly fish.
Without further a do, let's get started with this week's sharing.
Let's look at the Level 1 base stats for Torrent Fiend:
| Mana | Attack | Health | Speed | Armour | Ability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 1 (Melee) | 1 | 2 | NA | NA |
Bronze League - NA
Silver League - Health + 1
Gold League - Speed + 1
Beyond Gold - Head Winds
What does Torrent Fiend looking on growth?
To be frank if it doesn't grow, I am perfectly alright with it. Remember people, this is a 0 mana card!
But it does, it gets faster, one more health and finally head winds. Imagine missing attacks on it or even range cards being suppressed due to head winds. With or without it is able to turn matches in your favour and exceptionally important during low mana matches.
Alritey, let's see start the battle sharing.

Opponent Lineup
Prediction before pressing rumble
Look at my opponent, he is also using fiend and putting it at first position. Very versatile usage, can use as tank or padding for backline to protect key cards. Let's battle!
Let's get ready to rumble
Round 1, Everything unscathed, Deeplurker doing some work bringing opponent Silent Sha-vi to very low health.
Round 2, Silent Sha-vi smashed, my Torrent Fiend took loads of sneak punishment from Sha-vi and Uraeus.
Round 3, Torrent Fiend did what it could, taking all the punishment and finally went down.
Round 4, Corpse Fiend also went down during this round. It becomes 3 aside.
Round 5 and 6, This 2 rounds are all about bringing down the HP brought about by Equalizer. And Uraeus finally fell in round 6.
Round 7-10, Relatively quiet, continue to bring down Carrion Shade.
Round 11, Final efforts to take out the sitting free target. Victory secured.
After Thoughts
This match brought out the best of the 2 fiends on both my side and my opponent side. Equaliser makes Fiends look as big as their fellow highest health monster to even the playing field.
Now we look at Fiends, 0 mana effectively allow more mana to be spent on the other cards, for selecting higher mana cards. This is an important aspect to have.
Also, what is good for Fiends? Look at Furious Chicken. This card is so amazing, absorbing minimally 1 blow from a potential big hitter. It will be even more amazing if there is Divine Shield or addtional mana.
Did my strategy work in this game? Absolutely, I put Torrent Fiend at the backline to absorb all the sneak attacks. Regardless of splinter, this card or its variant should be in your arsenal for choosing. Torrent Fiend sustained and alled Pelacor Bandit and Deeplurker to do work.
Will I be using such a lineup in the future? Definitely will, Fiends are really key in gameplay such as taking damage and allowing better cards to be played with no mana spent to play it.
Fiends are really awesome, especially when it is boosted during equaliser rule set and also how it is able to be a sacrificial card for another important key card.
But one important note, when playing brawls, please think twice if you would like to field fiends as they become fodder for Gladius cards and end up giving opponent Gladius cards a free upgrade.
In terms of getting hold of Fiends regardless of splinter, it is a must. Own it or rent it. These cards are tide turning and can be played in almost all rule sets unless legendary cards are not allowed or melee cards are not allowed.
