Yesterday, we were invited to the breezy picturesque coastlines of Brgy. Alubijid, Misamis Oriental for a mangrove planting together with our co-volunteers at Hope Channel South Philippines.
Fortunately for us, it turns out a holiday treat. The wind was gratifying, the sky gave us glorious scenery, and the barangay officials prepared some food for us. (Volunteer perks)
While waiting for the seashore to subdue, I and my bevy friends took some steps around the river bank. We decided to meet the destiny of the mangrove that we’re about to plant.
I was personally curious too what beauty will I see in the seemed sturdy look of mangrove and captured these.

It’s dazzling! Each tree got roots like multiple hands stretching all over! (haha lol) Walking on the roots we realized they were very strong! One root can hold atleast 50 to 70kilos as we started jumping on it. The root with slightly green skin is the one that you can trust on your weight with, the one with almost red skin is already old to hold.
We enjoyed an hour grooving around here.
Mangroves have many rules in the marine life. First, it’s the home for many fish. Second, the dense root helps stabilizes the coastline and prevents erosion from waves and storms. Lastly, it’s a potential playground for audacious young people! And here we go, planting!
Planting this is very easy! That even a child can do it! If you have a chance to try this, it will be worth it.
Three years from now, I’d like to come back and see how much did the mangrove grow.
