That is the opposite of what I said. What I said was it is the work you do that defines your job, not someone else's participation in your education, i.e., a degree. You persist in the fallacy of only considering degrees as pertinent to jobs, and that is factually incorrect.

I was a biologist. I taught myself to be a biologist. My competence did not derive from a university degree, and it is a misconception to suppose that universities are the sole source of education. I only mention it to prove the point regarding the same being true of journalists.

As you point out, that is because cosmetology is a licensed profession, unlike biology or journalism. I doubt that you would deny that there are plenty of people competent to conduct cosmetological operations professionally that have no certification or licensing in the trade. Therefore it is yet a fallacy to claim that only certified cosmetologists can be called cosmetologists, despite local legal restrictions on the trade.

In fact, the opposite is true.
