Well, I've lived several places where folks open carried commonly. No muggings, rapes, or robberies at all. An armed society is a polite society. I'm a lot more worried about cops than bums. If you think cops can protect you from one of those bums with a wild hair up their ass, you've lost your mind. They'll come and scrape your remnants up or take your report, and that's about it. Life isn't like 'Die Hard', where cops are actually interacting with criminals during the commission of a crime. They only show up after crimes have been committed - if at all.
