My friend, I like you a lot. That being said, I am very angry right now. Perhaps you have not the benefit of my experience, and this explains your advocacy of slavery.
I have been held as a slave for years.
UBI is slavery.
Let me cut to the chase. A slave has no need to do other than what they are told, and in exchange for their obedience, they are fed, clothed, and housed. This is how UBI works. As long as you are obedient, you will be provided sustenance. Yet, do you doubt for a minute that our censored world will cut you off from your feed source if you tell truths that discomfit your masters?
Automation is only a problem for those that do not adopt it. Physics is not politically controlled. No institutions can pass or change the laws of physics. Across every field of industry today, physics is advancing decentralization: the delivery of means of production to individuals. Since the industrial revolution, institutions have held an edge in means of production, since factories require lots of capital, which is only potential to centralized pools of wealth parasitized from society.
This is no longer true, because of decentralization. Your grandmother, god bless her, can buy a Cricket knitting machine that she can use to make many hats, scarves, or socks. She doesn't have to knit them manually, nor does she need to invest in corporate stocks to purchase an ownership interest in a factory that has knitting machines. She can own, herself, a knitting factory.
3D printers can print with dirt, cement, plastic, metal, food, and even living cells today. She could also buy some of those, and make her own light switch plate covers, golf balls, or cake. She can buy a CRISPR kit to modify lettuce to produce more morphine and quit buying it from pharmacies, by building an aquaponics system to grow her own lettuce.
We don't need UBI. We don't need corporations, schools, or government. We need to handle our business, make what we need, and end the parasitization that relegates us to slavery to overlords, and makes overlords possible. Decentralization is literally and actually freedom, and nothing is more critical to decentralization than AI.
Not AI that runs the world. AI like Excel, a program that enables an individual to deploy the ability of thousands of accountants to manage our books. AI like Thingiverse, that allows individuals to deploy the scripts to manufacture the items thousands of individuals have crafted with 3D printers. Small AI, not world conquering AI. We can be free to make our own goods, to cooperate to provide our own services, and in the doing eliminate overlords altogether, make war obsolete, and deliver the stars to our posterity.
UBI is a trap that will prevent people from undertaking to make themselves free from the overlords that parasitize their production. Decentralization will proceed, and failing to get in on the ground floor will leave people behind the curve, playing catch up. People collecting UBI will never leave a legacy of interstellar travel to their sons, but will instead only deliver that ability to their overlords. The sons of those dependent on overlords for UBI will be slaves, like their fathers.
You have not been a slave, fed, clothed, and housed in return for performing the work you were ordered to by masters.
I have been, for years. I am free now. I will die free.
UBI is exactly slavery, and if you care for the society we live in, please consider that freedom is necessary to individuals to attain their highest quality of life.
I apologize for my anger, but I am only human. I hope my point is not lost in it, but manages to surface and deliver to you the revelation that freedom can only be made by the free. It is never a privilege granted by overlords.
