I was immediately struck with the question of whether we could affect the Earth's magnetic field when I saw this comment. HAARP is claimed to have orders of magnitude more power of affect than is input, more like a relay than a switch. While it seems ridiculous to think that a few satellites could affect the magnetic field created by the massive generator of the planet's rotation and nickel/iron innards, the evidence of the fossil record indicates a delicate and unstable mechanism regulates the field generated, because it switches polarity frequently.
