"I would just like us to get away from the catastrophic outrage."
All higher animals, from octopi and birds up to people, that I have seen research on, demonstrate hypervigilance regarding fair treatment. I pointed out elsewhere how dogs and monkeys react with outrage over treats being differentially distributed. In people, as well as all other higher animals that depend on their society for their survival, fairness is an existential matter. Take being fired. The term originated in Scotland IIRC, where a village would banish someone and burn their possessions and home, firing them. Since this communal disapproval could arise through innuendo, insinuation, and gossip, such minor slights could result in death, as being banished and stripped of everything you owned in the harsh climate and clan based Scot society was a death sentence.
In the West, and probably globally, we have been indoctrinated from birth to consider our social status a reflection of our economic assets. It is normal for someone with lesser status to perceive someone with higher status taxing their income as unfair and to instinctively react with outrage. All social animals do the same. Cats will fight to the death over other cats eating from their food bowl. It isn't because of a lack of food, it is because it is their food that is being taken and in nature if a cat allows another cat to take it's food it is likely to die, even though in captivity we will just refill the dish with food.
We aren't creatures of pure reason, and as you note some people are able to restrain their instinctive outrage and consider things with reason. Most people, as you note, react to their strong emotions and to being DV'd with the outrage we evolved to defend our lives with.
"...what about in 2035..."
Since 2024 estimates of organic human users on Hive have ranged down, from an estimated 3k-5k to ~1k actual people today, from one source I have recently read. I have no way to verify these estimates other than to look at Arcange's monthly statistical reports that quantify posts and comments. However AI has infested the internet with chat bots, and much of that posting and commenting could be from bots. I haven't detected AI use in my comments for ~1 year now, but regularly did prior to that. This doesn't suggest to me that bots have given up, but that they have become more competent and I can no longer detect them. If this is even remotely close to what is happening on Hive, Hive will not exist in 2035, or worse, will be almost exclusively bots farming rewards for a few profiteers. User retention is an existential issue for Hive, and that is why it is so important to me, because I want Hive to succeed.
The most important thing to Hive isn't inflation. It's people.
