When it comes to food safe, I'm less concerned with price. I looked at long term results comparing the two when I was looking for the right finish, and chose Tung oil. I vaguely recall that over time Tung oil performed better, but don't recall any details at present. I liked the recommended solvent to thin it, too, limonene from citrus peels, pure organic and non-toxic with a nice refreshing smell. It's rare to work with solvents and finishes that just don't have any toxic effects.
