What people fail to acknowledge is that private firearms aren't owned mostly by people intent on committing crimes, but protecting themselves, and preventing crimes. In fact firearms are used an order of magnitude more often to prevent crime than commit it, so violent crime going up when people's access to firearms is impeded is predictable.
