I used to use CDMA phones, which do not have the capability to be 'smart', and were not useful for tracking and surveillance purposes. However, the networks have been 'upgraded' such that CDMA phones will no longer work.

Other than abandoning telecommunications completely, what alternative do we now have to smart phones? I take a lot of crap from folks for not taking a phone with me out of my home. I reckon it's bad enough the phone can record me at home, and at least prevent being tracked by not taking it out with me.

I recently had to walk ~8 miles because I didn't have it with me, but consider that a pleasant stroll of an evening and a cheap price to pay for not being tracked.
