I once carefully contemplated purchasing Gilchrist, OR, for $1M, complete with bowling alleys, supermarkets, and movie theaters. It has been a company town that housed the workers lumbering in the timber mines - and the trees had all been felled. I'd be as rich as Midas had I been able to swing the financing (and pay the note) if I had.
