You had me up until this point. The banksters own the pipes crypto depends on to transact through. They can apply their surveillance data on every transactor to each pfennig and micromanage every satoshi of value per their preferences. Unless we have independent network infrastructure there will be no digital currency that isn't chains around our necks.
Seems like meshcore LoRa networks are popping up all over, and if this can be stretched with private backhaul links across oceans we will have independent global networks that we own, and that will change everything. If we cannot manage transoceanic links, we will have only continental potential, and there are mountain ranges that impede lines of sight that will have to be traversed, or we will only have isolated regional networks.
Even that will be a great impediment to global conquest.
