I have chosen a region from which winds from large cities blow away, that was a refugium from glaciers during ice ages, where almost all my neighbors are armed and know each other, that is a great farming community that constantly recycles nutrients and continues to build some of the most fertile and deep soil in the world, surrounded by wildlands that are thickly forested, where wild game and natural populations are strong and healthy. I know this country well. I have a few places where I've stashed some food in crates, tarps, even built little shelters tucked under the branches of the thickest thickets.

During the Holodomor armed gangs of thugs went door to door and confiscated peoples grain, livestock, and left them no seed to sow. Greenhouses are hard to hide. I recommend against greenhouses, but rather to choose sites where glaciers don't go, and food can be grown even during an ice age.
