You have heard that "Motherhood is not for everyone", and there is always something right in that statement, because I lived it in my own flesh and I still have sequels of it. From the moment I knew I was going to be a mother it was super strong for me, I did not externalize it to others but inside I was terrified.

I'm not talking about it being an impossible task, far from it, because I can't imagine how my grandmother managed to have 12 children and raise them all. I'm talking about the emotional part, that amount of mixed feelings, a lot of sadness, then euphoria and so on during the first contacts with the baby.

I have always been a kind of person who is not very expressive, who keeps things to myself, who prefers to keep quiet rather than argue, although nowadays I have changed those little things a bit, but with regard to motherhood it has been a real challenge to give my 1000% or more, all my energy, my encouragement, because that's what it's all about.

When I had my baby in my arms it wasn't easy, I went very quickly from joy to that low note, that I don't know what, maybe fear, uncertainty, physical and mental fatigue, it was desperate, and I still feel the after-effects of it at times.

I also believe that society has been in charge of implanting this "must be" with respect to everything, even more so with motherhood. And although many times I would like to turn a deaf ear, it is not so easy to do so. There is that "you have to be a good mother", but for me "being a good mother" is not the same as for any other woman.

You know, those standards of "how should a good mother behave?", "what should she do?", well, dealing with that sometimes gives me a hard prick in my self-esteem. Somehow though, just seeing my little one smile gives me a lot of relief from so many things. I always do what I can, and if I have to improvise then I improvise, it's a challenge to be a new mother and literally deal with everything alone.

The main challenges no one taught me about being a mother, but I learned to somehow cope

Challenge 1.- Baby feeding, oh my gosh, I think that was the most traumatic part in some ways, as my baby girl didn't like anything, and you know what is the most tragic thing that maybe I didn't prepare the food in a way that she could like it, since being alone everything was trial and error, over and over again.

My daughter with a year and a half, after overcoming the covid-19 was worse, she was at risk of malnutrition, on that dangerous edge of having to give her "forced" food or hospitalized. I think at that moment I kind of saw the seriousness of the situation and I dedicated myself completely to look for information, to practice, to talk to a child nutritionist and to understand many things.

There are still some things that she doesn't like, but from then on we "took off", and my daughter is now two years and seven months old, she is super healthy and eats much better.

Challenge 2.- Breastfeeding, the beginning nobody believed that I could give enough breast milk, and as soon as my baby was born my breasts overflowed, it was very painful, especially when I tried to get the baby to latch on well and I couldn't, so I had a blocked duct of the breast and that was horrible.

In the end a doctor forcibly attached the baby to the breast, she made me see stars but finally she was able to suck in the right way and from then on she never let go of her boob again. Today I am fighting with her to take it away for good, it's time!

Challenge 3.-My body has never been the same, it is logical that we put on weight during pregnancy, that cellulite stretch marks appear and the incredible way we carry a life for 9 months in our belly, the pain of contractions and childbirth, well you know what I'm talking about.

What has been a challenge for me is to get back to what I was before, the physical activity and what I used to do. I have tried but I can't do it as often as I would like, I think it's because she is still so little. When she starts preschool I will be able to take more frequent breaks for physical activities, they are always needed.

The most important thing is to listen and follow our heart, I firmly believe in the sixth sense as a mother and in letting ourselves go with what we feel is best for our children.

The only certain thing is that at the end of the day, I can be exhausted full of problems, on the verge of crying, but seeing my daughter, feeling the warmth of her hands on my face and hearing her say "mommy!", that is enough to keep me going, fighting for her, and that exaggerated feeling of taking care of her and trying not to let her suffer, are gasoline for my life.

Thank you so much for reading me!!!, for your support and attention 💜
