"Human Form" | ¿De verdad te gustaría lucir igual a todos? - ESP/ENG

Human Form es un corto de terror surcoreano que vio la luz hace 7 años y nos muestra una historia que no está muy alejada de la realidad actual para muchas personas.

El día de hoy leí una noticia que llamo mi atención, una imitadora de Kim Kardashian que se realizó muchas operaciones para parecerse a la ya mencionada, falleció el día de hoy debido a una cirugía plástica fallida. Triste, ¿cierto?, bueno, no es la primera vez que sucede algo así y a mí no deja de sorprenderme como personas se someten a montones de cirugías (procedimiento que a mí me parece muy delicado) para cambiar totalmente como lucen o peor aún, buscando parecerse a otra persona. No me malentiendan, no quiero juzgar, sé que muchas personas necesitan cirugía plástica por motivos de salud. También sé que varias personas buscan cambiar su apariencia con la intención de sentirse más cómodos consigo mismos e incluso muchas veces es por enfermedades mentales como la dismorfia corporal.

Si me preguntan, pienso que cada quien puede hacer con su cuerpo lo que quiera, ¿quién soy yo para impedirlo?, aun así no puedo evitar sentir cierta incomodidad con la oleada de personas queriendo operarse, porque lo hacen con una imagen en mente y terminan luciendo todos iguales, lo cual se ve falso y a mí particularmente me parece perturbador. ¿De verdad es tan importante verse como los demás o querer encajar? Reflexionando sobre este tema, recordé el corto del que les hablaré hoy, corto que de hecho vi hace como 6 años y en su momento me causo bastante impresión.

Human Form is a South Korean horror short film that was released 7 years ago and tells a story that is not very far from the current reality for many people.

Today I read a news that caught my attention, a Kim Kardashian impersonator who had many operations to look like the previously mentioned, died today due to a failed plastic surgery. Sad, isn't it?, well, it's not the first time something like this happens and it never ceases to amaze me how people undergo lots of surgeries (a procedure that seems very delicate to me) to totally change the way they look or even worse, trying to look like someone else. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to judge, I know that many people need plastic surgery for health reasons. I also know that many people seek to change their appearance with the intention of feeling more comfortable with themselves and even many times it is because of mental illnesses such as body dysmorphia.

If you ask me, I think that everyone can do what they want with their body, who am I to stop them?, but even so I can not help but feel some discomfort with the wave of people wanting to have surgery, because they do it with an image in mind and end up looking all the same, which looks false and I particularly find it disturbing. Is it really so important to look like others or want to fit in? Reflecting on this subject, I remembered the short film I'm going to talk about today, a film that I actually saw about 6 years ago and at the time made quite an impression on me.

Human Form inicia con nuestra protagonista (Inhyung) siendo pequeña dibujando tranquilamente en su habitación. Su madre entra para ver qué es lo que dibujo, en ningún momento se muestra su cara, lo que hace todo bastante ominoso. Se enfoca el dibujo y notamos que es un dibujo de una persona con características faciales interesantes, acto seguido la madre lo toma en sus manos y lo guinda en la pared, junto con otros dibujos similares (rostros afilados y puntiagudos).

El tiempo pasó, la niña ya es una adolescente y vemos que siente inconformidad con su apariencia, por lo que junto a una amiga va a una clínica buscando presupuesto para poder operarse. Cuando es llamada, Inhyung le muestra a la mujer que la atiende varios bocetos de cómo quiere que la hagan lucir (dibujos de caras puntiagudas y extrañas). La mujer con condescendencia le dice que no cree que ella pueda pagar esa operación, acto seguido, se enfoca la cara de la mujer, una cara que parece de plástico con rasgos puntiagudos y afilados, iguales a los dibujos de Inhyung. Desmoralizada por la respuesta, nuestra protagonista regresa a su casa y en la cena, podemos ver los rostros de los familiares de Inhyung. Todos están operados, lucen ese rostro extraño, puntiagudo y afiliado que aparentemente todo el mundo tiene y los que no, lo quieren tener. Al ver los rostros de todos, adquiere sentido el porqué Inhyung desea operarse. Se siente excluida, diferente, que no encaja con los demás (a muchas personas estas cosas les afectan bastante, así para otros sean tonterías. Confieso que para mí son tonterías... lo siento).

El ver las caras de todos resulta un poco inquietante, sus rostros no trasmiten nada, solo frialdad, pero esto a Inhyung no le importa, ella solo quiere verse como todos, así que le pide a su familia el poder operarse, pero la respuesta no es lo que esperaba, pues le dicen que no, que aún tiene tiempo y que si quiere hacerlo que lo haga con su propio Dinero. Ante tantas negativas, Inhyung sale triste de su casa y sucede algo que la deja aún más triste, ya que se encuentra con que su amiga logro operarse, luciendo ahora como todos, mientras ella sigue igual.

Todos los acontecimientos crean un desorden mental en nuestra "pobre" protagonista, haciéndola ir a un lugar clandestino para poder operarse y bueno, ya podrán imaginarse que sucedió, la pobre Inhyung no volvió a ver la luz del día, pero eso no es lo peor de todo. Lo peor de todo es que nadie se dio cuenta de que Inhyung ya no estaba en este mundo, ni siquiera su familia, porque mandaron a una chica operada y como todos lucen iguales, no supieron darse cuenta si era realmente Inhyung o no. Totalmente perturbador, ¿cierto?, tienen que ver el corto para que detallen bien todo lo que se muestra, pues hay pequeñas cosas que de verdad sorprenden.

Human Form begins with our protagonist (Inhyung) as a little girl quietly drawing in her room. Her mother enters to see what she is drawing, at no time is her face shown, which makes everything quite ominous. The drawing comes into focus and we notice that it is a drawing of a person with interesting facial features, then the mother takes it in her hands and hangs it on the wall, along with other similar drawings (sharp and pointed faces).

Time passed, the girl is already a teenager and we see that she feels dissatisfied with her appearance, so she and a friend go to a clinic looking for a budget to have an operation. When she is called, Inhyung shows the woman who attends her several sketches of how she wants to look (drawings of pointed and strange faces). The woman condescendingly tells her that she doesn't think she can afford such an operation, then the woman's face comes into focus, a plastic-like face with sharp, pointed features, just like Inhyung's drawings. Demoralized by the answer, our protagonist returns home and at dinner, we can see the faces of Inhyung's relatives. They are all operated on, looking that strange, pointed, affiliated face that apparently everyone has and those who don't, want to have it. Seeing everyone's faces, it makes sense why Inhyung wants to have surgery. She feels excluded, different, that she doesn't fit in with the others (many people are quite affected by these things, even if for others they are nonsense. I confess that for me it is nonsense... sorry).

Seeing everyone's faces is a little disturbing, their faces do not express anything, only coldness, but this does not matter to Inhyung, she just wants to look like everyone else, so she asks her family if she can have surgery, but the answer is not what she expected, they tell her no, that she still has time and that if she wants to do it, she should do it with her own money. Faced with so many refusals, Inhyung leaves her house sad and something happens that leaves her even sadder, as she finds that her friend managed to undergo surgery, now looking like everyone else, while she remains the same.

All the events create a mental disorder in our "poor" protagonist, making her go to a clandestine place to have surgery and well, you can imagine what happened, the poor Inhyung never saw the light of day again, but that's not the worst of it all. The worst of all is that nobody realized that Inhyung was no longer in this world, not even her family, because they sent an operated girl and as they all look the same, they didn't realize if it was really Inhyung or not. Totally disturbing, isn't it?, you have to watch the short film to see in detail everything that is shown, because there are small things that are really surprising.

Creo que este es el primer corto que reseño aquí en Hive, pero les cuento que yo amo los cortos. Desde hace años sigo muchos canales en Youtube donde suben esos pequeños filmes que muchas veces son joyas sin descubrir e incluso pueden llegar a ser mejores que una película de largas horas, demostrando que no se necesita que algo sea extenso, para que tenga calidad.

Este corto particularmente si fue popular en su momento e invito a la reflexión. A mí me causo inquietud y fascinación al mismo tiempo, ya que me gustó mucho la estética que se manejó más la forma secuencial en que todo fue narrado. Creo que el manejo de todo fue ideal para el tipo de historia y al ser en cierta forma un corto explicito, trasmite el mensaje de forma contundente, mensaje que yo personalmente apoyo.

I think this is the first short film I've reviewed here on Hive, but I love short films. For years I have been following many channels on Youtube where they upload those little films that are often undiscovered gems and can even be better than a long movie, proving that something doesn't need to be long to have quality.

This short film in particular was popular at the time and invites us to reflect on the topic. I was both disturbed and fascinated at the same time, since I liked the aesthetics and the sequential way in which everything was narrated. I think that the handling of everything was ideal for the type of story and being in some way an explicit short film, it transmits the message in a strong way, a message that I personally support.
